Typhoon Name in Korean

Jan 10,1999
Believe it or not there is a committee that determines the names of typhoons. This committee, which is composed of Asian countries and the United States, informed member-countries that starting next year typhoons will be named in various languages of member countries.
The Korean delegation nominated, Gaemi (Ant), Jebi (Swallow), Jangmi (Rose), Megi (Catfish) and Nabi (Butterfly) among others as new typhoon names.
North Korea suggested Giroegi (Wild Geese), Sonamu (Pinetree) and Doraji (Broad Bellflower).
Accordingly, the first typhoon next year will be named Damrey, a Cambodian word. The second will be dubbed the Chinese word Longwang and the third will go by the North Korean word for 'wild geese', Giroegi. South Korea must wait until the 11th typhoon to name it 'Gaemi' (Ant).
