Samsung Kicks Off Mass Production of Rambus DRAM

Korean semiconductor producers including Samsung Electronics plan to begin mass production of the Rambus DRAM.
The U.S.-based Rambus Co. developed the design technology and manufacturers are developing products under a licencing agreement.
The processing speed of the Rambus DRAM is 800 MHz, eight times faster than existing products.
Samsung announced on January 17 that it will produce 500,000 units of the Rambus DRAM this month for the first time in the world.
Additionally, it will increase production levels to five million units per month at the second half of this year.
Hyundai and LG plan to begin mass production in February. This semiconductor is expected to be a standard of the next generation due to the support of Intel, the largest central processing unit maker in the world.
The market scale is predicted to reach 2.6 billion dollars, which is 30 percent of the memory-chip market.
