Lee Heon Jae"s Comments on Big Deal
Lee Heon Jae, president of the Financial Supervisory Commission (FSC), said in a press conference on January 22, ' As far as I know, Lee Keon Hee, chairman of Samsung Group, and Kim Woo Jung, chairman of Daewoo group, met and resolved their difference of opinions. Sooner or later, the two Chief Executive Officers will meet to conclude the 'big deal' between both groups.'Lee announced that the FSC will enlarge limits on owning equities of banks, now restricted to just 4 percent, in order to improve ownership structure of banks.
He added that, instead, the FSC will fortify loan restrictions for major stockholders so as to prevent ruthless activities by chaebol groups.
