Illegal Aliens Increasing, Again

The number of illegal aliens, which decreased after the IMF bailout, have started to increase again because of the worsening economies in China and Southeast Asia.
The Ministry of Justice(MOJ) revealed, on January 24, that the number of illegal aliens decreased by 14,500 per month from 148,048 at the end of 1997 to 92,600 in August 1998.
But, then it rose to 99,537 at the end of last year. The number of illegal aliens from China reached 55,600, which is the most, followed by Bangladesh (7,400), the Philippines (6,400), Mongolia (5,500), Vietnam (3,700), and Pakistan (3,098).
The MOJ plans to punish those who employ illegal aliens and to impose not more than 10 million won in fines on the illegal aliens, themselves.
