Five-Year Olds Should Be Admitted to School System

The Second National Foundation Committee suggested that the government enlarge the education system to include five-year-old children.
Kim Sung Jae, professor of Hanshin University, insisted in a public forum on January 25 that it is necessary to lower the current age of six at which children can enter elementary school to five. He feels this is an obligation the state should take over from private day care centers.
To do so, he asserted that it elementary school should be extended to seven years from the current six followed by three years of middle school and three years of high school.
He also suggested that a special committee on information and technology be set up under the direct control of the president.
