FKTU Requests 5.5% Salary Increase

The Federation of Korean Trade Unions(FKTU) decided on January 26 that it will seek a salary increase of 5.5 percent.
A source at the FKTU said that the federation, which represents over a million workers in numerous unions, based its demand partly on the three percent rise in the consumer price index.
The FKTU plans to form a joint bargaining committee and begin collective negotiations in March.
Regarding its withdrawal from the Tripartite Committee, composed of representatives from Labor, Management, and Government, it revealed that it could not help withdrawing from the committee as the committee lacked any real power to change or reform existing agreements.
