European Investment in Korea Booming

The scale of European investment into Korea reached a similar level as that of the U.S. The EU Chamber of Commerce revealed on January 28 that the total sum of European direct investment into Korea was 2.96 billion dollars (33.5 percent of all foreign investment), which is almost the same as the U.S.' 2.97 billion dollars (33.6 percent).
The total amount of foreign investment increased by 27 percent from 6.97 billion dollars to 8.85 billion dollars.
The rapid increase in Europe's portion of total investment is due to a 23.1 percent growth of European investment as opposed to a 6.7 percent decrease in U.S. investment.
The Netherlands invested 1.3 billion dollars, the most among European countries, and four countries including Germany, France, Sweden, and Ireland invested more than 100 million dollars, each, into Korea.
A source at the EU Chamber of Commerce said, 'In the long run, the attraction of European companies means a rosy future for the Korean economy.'
