Junior Prosecutors Request Resignation of Prosecutor-General

Unsatisfied with the announcement of the investigation result on 'Taejon Lawyer's Scandal' on February 1, junior prosecutors of Seoul, Pusan and Inchon District Prosecutor's Office signed a letter demanding the resignation of Prosecutor-General Kim Tae Joung.
It is the very first time prosecutors have challenged their leadership collectively in Korean history.
They asked for the reform of the current system to ensure political neutrality.
Earlier on this day, the National Prosecution Administration (NPA) announced that 25 prosecutors were discovered to have received bribes from Lee Jong Ki, the Taejon lawyer whose case files pointed to a vast network of kickbacks and bribes given to prosecutors.
Among the 25, six prosecutors have resigned because of their involvement in this scandal. The NPA plans to punish prosecutors, harshly, who refuse to step down.
The NPA also revealed that five judges were linked to the scandal, and it notified the Supreme Court of this fact.
Prosecutor-General Kim Tae Joung, photo, said in his official press release, 'I really apologize to the nation and thoroughly fulfill to clean up the law society. The prosecutor's office will make every effort to reform so as to be the prosecutor's office of the people.'
He also said to officials in the prosecutor's office, 'We are facing the most difficult situation in our history: We have to endure the pains required to reform.'
