The crisis ignited by the collective petition is calming down because junior prosecutors withdrew their request for Prosecutor-General Kim Tae Joung's resignation. However, there is still clearly some dissatisfaction among junior prosecutors and the expected punishment of Shim Je Ryoon could bring another crisis.
The Ministry of Justice(MOJ) plans to enact a change in personnel appointments that will be unbiased towards a candidate's region or alumni.
Most junior prosecutors declared, 'We need to wait on the reaction of high-ranking officials as we have sufficiently expressed our opinions on the problems in the prosecutor's office.'
But many voiced complaints by saying, 'In a conference held between junior prosecutors and high-ranking officials, we did not gain any decisive answers on the problem of political neutrality in the prosecutor's office or the resignation of the prosecutor-general.'
After the ll-hour conference, the delegation of junior prosecutors announced, 'We will make every effort to become the kind of prosecutors who people can trust by cooperating with the prosecutor-general.'
