Worldwide TV Set War

Worldwide home appliance makers compete hotly to gain market share of high-quality TV sets including flat display, projection TV, and PDP (Plasma Display Panel) models.
The flat display TV set improved its screen quality and reduced eye fatigue due to less light reflection.
Samsung and LG of Korea and Mitsubishi, Sony, and Matsushita of Japan are the main competitors for the market.
The flat TV set market is expected to expand from 50,000 units in 1998 to two million units worldwide this year alone.
The projection TV set is an alternative to the Braun-tube TV which cannot be made bigger than 38 inches.
Sony, Matsushita, and Toshiba already have 70 percent of the market share. Samsung and LG have challenged the Japanese makers with such brands as 'Pavv' and 'Gallery', respectively.
PDP is a very light and thin television and is suitable to be built between 40 to 80 inches. Fujitsu, NEC, and Philips have already begun selling 42 inch products and Samsung, LG, and Daewoo have also made test versions.
