Unpredictable Communications Big Deal
The management rights of Dacom and Shinsegi Communications will be decided this week: a prelude to the approaching communications war arising from a period of massive restructuring.Samsung, Hyundai and LG are competing for major control in Dacom, and the three parties will be battling it out on February 25.
Similar to automobile and semiconductor deals, the so-called 'Communications Big Deal' will have a difficult time coming to an agreement.
LG wants to take some of Dacom's share since it lost its semiconductor business to Hyundai, but opposition from the ministry of communications could prove a big obstacle.
LG had promised to only maintain a five-percent portion of Dacom and not to exceed that when it obtained approval for the right to partake in the personal communications services(PCS) business from the government. The government is still holding them to that promise.
