Employment Quota System Extended
The Ministry of Government Administration and Home Affairs, on February 23, has decided to raise the mandatory hiring ratio for female government workers from the current 20 percent to 30 percent.It will also extend hiring quotas for women until 2002 from 2000. Entry-level or grade-nine positions in the government must be filled with at least 30 percent female employees.
The Ministry also extended liscense suspension periods for repeat, drunk-driving offenders from one to three years.
The Ministry announced its 1999 policy and planning objectives and stated that all identification cards such as national registration, driver's licenses and property ownership will be computerized from the year 2001.
