Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Minister Intends to Resign

Kim Sun Kil, the minister of maritime affairs and fisheries, announced his intention to resign in a ministerial meeting on March 2.
He said his resignation was necessary because he was ultimately responsible for mistakes in the Korea-Japan Fisheries Agreement.
Minister Kim added that he will negotiate with the Japanese side, again, as soon as possible and consider various supplemental measures that will benefit Korea's fishermen.
President Kim replied in the meeting, 'The fisheries issue very much affected the minds of people. The related ministries will have to make an effort to dissolve people's misunderstandings.'
