Investigation into Agricultural Co-op Scandal Enlarged
The Supreme Public Prosecutors' Office on March 2 launched a full-scale investigation into the recently uncovered financial scandal at the National Agricultural Co-operative Federation(NACF). It will also investigate similar scandals at the Stock-Raisers Association(SRA) and the Marine Products Association.Lee Myong Jae, head of the Supreme Public Prosecutors' office said, 'We have to clean up the officials' corruption and we will thoroughly go through each case. Furthermore, I hope that, eventually, this can be the turning point in our efforts to 'purify' public organizations in the future.'
The office will be concentrating on illegal lending practices, the corrupt circulation system for products, and the fabrication of liquidation claims by officials.
It will also question Won Chol Hee, former chairman of the NACF, and Song Chan Won, former chairman of SRA.
