Foreign Automaker Eager to Conquer Domestic Market

The recently-arrived foreign automakers are eager to occupy a large portion of the Korean auto market.
These automakers are aggressively promoting there products to ensure a successfuly foothold in Korean. Aside from slick presentations of their latest models, they are offering generous financing and installment-plan purchases. They are also assuring that buyers will have to use their after-sales service centers.
European and U.S. carmakers are trying to ensure they have a strong presence in Korea before Japanese automakers invade the market, which is expected in July 1999.
BMW Korea held an auto show in January to showcase BMW's new 300 series. Considering the high pricetag of its cars, BMW plans to attract the majority of its buyers by arranging financing.
Volvo Korea undertook to expand its parts and after-sales centers even though it will only sell two hundred cars this year. It will add four service centers during the first half of this year.
