Domestic Universities Suffer Drop in New Students

Korean universities are suffering from a drop in enrollment.
According to the Ministry of Education and the Council of Korea University Education, the 186 universities and 161 professional colleges throughout the nation did not select 51,000 students who wrote entrance exams for 1999, three times the amount of 1998.
This number is 7.9 percent of the 648,000 students who were admitted to colleges and universities this year. Fourteen universities and professional colleges saw their recruitment levels drop to 30 to 40 percent of capacity.
As this shortage of recruitment is forecasted to only get worse, universities and professional colleges should inevitably restructure their admittance and recruiting policies.
