Foreign Groups Seek FKI Membership

Major foreign companies in Korea such as the American Chamber of Commerce in Korea(AMCHAM) and Volvo Construction Korea are now exerting themselves to gain membership in the Federation of Korean Industries(FKI) as early as possible.
These groups recently received a request from FKI Chairman Kim Woo Jung to apply for membership in the business organization.
A source from AMCHAM said on March 18, 'We would like to encourage membership since there are a lot of current issues such as the resolution of massive layoffs which FKI addresses, and it has an intimate relationship with Korean companies, especially small and medium-sized groups.'
The FKI also welcomed this movement saying, 'We have already announced the entrance of foreign groups. We are processing applications now.'
IBM Korea is so far the only foreign regular member in the FKI.
The FKI will conduct an explanatory event for foreign companies in Korea to lead to more membership.
