Mobile Phone Users in Courtroom Sentenced to Detention
A man who decided to use his cell phone in a courtroom was sentenced to three days of detention in police custody.It was revealed yesterday that Judge Chae Dong Hun, who presides over the Incheon District Court's civil division, ordered a Mr. Baek to be sentenced to three days detention on March 18.
Mr. Baek was charged with impeding the procession of a trial by using his mobile phone, after he was ordered to turn off his phone several times.
The judge said that to operate a mobile phone during a trial was a distraction and an impediment to the court's inquiry and a violation of the law of the court.
Incheon District Court has attached to all of its courtroom doors a notice warning that those who set off a beeper or mobile phone signal can be sentenced up to 20 days detention and be fined up to 1 million won.
