Private Tutoring Still Flourishing

In spite of the International Monetary Fund(IMF) bailout, which supposedly shocked people on the real state of our economy, the extra splurge on additional private tutoring in elementary, middle and high school has not been reducing at all.
According to the Korea Education Development Institute on March 22, the total amount of extra private tutoring from March to August of last year reached 10 billion dollars.
The Korea Education Development conducts surveys every three to five years on education. The extra tutoring amounts to an incredible 2.65 percent of the gross national product(GNP), which is more than the 1.86 percent recorded in 1994.
According to research, 79.3 percent of all students below the college level received special education after school and 72 percent of all students actually felt they needed the extra work to get into a good university.
One of the reasons why private education keeps growing is that the prices for extra tutoring and private institutions are charging lower rates due to the recent economic reccession.
