Cell Phones No Longer Part of Service

From April, cellular phone buyers will have to pay at least 123.00 dollars for the phone itself before they can join a service.
Directors and management from the five major cellular service providers - SK, Shinsegi, Freetel, Hansol and LG Telecom - held an emergency meeting on March 24 and agreed upon pricing policies in the highly competitive cell phone market.
Mobile phone service providers consented not to sell any cell phones for less than 123 dollars and abolish the practice of providing free telephones when someone subscribes to a cellular service.
The companies will also regulate the amount each company will charge for cellular service.
SK, the largest cellular phone provider, agreed to the conditions and will have the most expensive phones at 246.00 dollars for its Personal Communication Service phone .
The groups will request the approval of the Ministry of Information and Communications for the deal which may violate anti-collusion laws.
