BIS Capital Adequacy Ratio of Many Banks Surpassed 12%

The BIS (Bank for International Settlements) Capital Adequacy Ratio of many banks including Koram, Shinhan, Hana, Hanvit and Chonbuk banks surpassed 12 percent.
According to data as of the end of last year that the Financial Supervisory Office (FSO) compiled, the BIS ratio of 20 commercial banks averaged 8.23 percent.
Among them, Koram Bank topped the list at 15.21 percent, followed by Shinhan 14.69 percent, Hana 13.1 percent, Chonbuk 12.9 percent and Hanvit 12.05 percent.
Financially-troubled and poorly-performing banks including Chohung, Korea First, Seoul, Peace, Kangwon and Chungbuk banks were at very low levels as of the end of last year.
But those banks are now restructuring their organizations through mergers and the introduction of foreign capital or public money.
Accordingly, those banks should sharply raise their BIS ratios, affiliates in the banking industry forecasted.
