Children of Car Accident Victims To Be Compensated

Children who are in financial need because of parental death or disability due to a traffic accident will receive a no interest loan beginning in year 2000.
The Ministry of Construction and Transportation (MOCT) announced that it prepared the revised proposal on compensation of damages stemming from traffic accidents and it will legalize the proposal.
According to the proposal, children under 18, whose parents die or are disabled as a result of a traffic accident,(the number of cases increasing 13,000 every year) can borrow 150,000 won per month interest free to help defray the cost of education for up to 20 years.
Parents over 65, who are the victims of a traffic accident and have no son or daughter to support , will be given 10,000 won every month.
Persons seriously disabled by traffic accidents will be offered 10,000 won for the cost of treatment.
In addition, MOCT increased the minimum personal coverage on compulsory insurance to 20 million won up from the current 15 million won in order guarantee adequate insurance levels.
