Intellectual Rights Protection Gets Stiffer

The prosecutor's office on March 31 declared an all-out war against the infringement of intellectual property rights. The focus of the offices push will be the corporate sector and even government offices. It will be investigating illegal software used in the company and fine all convicted.
The prosecutors will create a new unit with the specific task of rooting out intellectual property rights violators. The entire software industry depends on governments to protect this vital industry. President Kim Dae Jung on March 31 strongly ordered prosecutor general secretary Kim Tae Jung to lay bare all the intellectual property infringement cases.
The office will give a month grace period to allow voluntary compliance. The investigations begin in May targeting governmental institutes.
A source from the office asserted, 'It is absurd to let officials keep using illegal software since we launched exposing of it, so we will go through all the illegal copy of print, video, trade mark and lending.'
