Cell Phone Exports Increasing Sharply

Exports of cellular phones are increasing sharply.
Their exports now exceed those of traditional electronic exports such as TVs, VCRs, and refrigerators.
According to the Korea Electronics Promotion Agency(KEPA) on April 5, cellular phone exports last year amounted to 1.42 billion dollars, up 68 percent from 1997. Exports from January to February of this year, already recorded 390 million dollars, a 141 percent increase over the same period last year.
Cellular phone exports are now the third-ranked Korean export following semiconductors and TFT-LCDs. While cellur phones are becoming one of Korea's major export products, color TV exports amount to only 130 million dollars yearly, and former export titans like microwave ovens, VCRs, and refrigerators, individually, do not even account for half of mobile phone exports.
