Seo Sang Mok Gets Favorable Vote

A move to arrest lawmaker Seo Sang Mok was voted down by the National Assembly on April 7.
It was alleged that he used the Office of National Tax Administration illegally, raising a large amount of money from Korean businessmen during the last presidential election campaign.
The National Assembly held its plenary session in which 292 of 297 incumbent lawmakers attended in the afternoon of April 7,and decided on whether its members will allow the Prosecutor's Office to arrest the lawmaker by voting for or against the arrest.
As a result of the vote, 136 of 292 total voters was for his arrest, but 147 of them were against it. Blank and invalid votes were 7 and 4, respectively.
Accordingly, the National Assembly rejected the arrest of the Lawmaker Seo Sang Mok because the motion did not get half the required votes.
The vote to prosecute the lawmaker was only the fourth one recorded in the History of the National Assembly.
