Government Meets Several Union Demands

The government decided on April 9 to reduce the permissible working hours in a week, and allow labor union leaders and representatives of individual companies to receive a regular salary from their respective companies.
In terms of restructuring, it announced that government organizations and public institutions must consult with labor unions when altering hiring and working conditions.
Furthermore, the government agreed to establish the 'Systematic Improvement Committee for Former Labor Union Leaders' to comply with international labor standards.
The government and the ruling National Congress for New Politics(NCNP) held a meeting at the National Assembly and consented to allow more leeway towards the labor sector, which has broken away from official talks with the government in protest over the large number of layoffs.
