Many Housewives Deeply Involved in Gambling.

Housewives account for nearly 30 percent of all habitual gambling suspects apprehended by law enforcement officers last year.
An official from the Supreme Prosecutors' Office said on April 11 that a crackdown on various kinds of illegal gambling in 1998 produced the arrests of 38,743 individuals, a 7.6 percent increase from the previous year. Out of the total number arrested, 17.8 percent were women.
He added that 27.1 percent of the 4,406 who were considered habitual gamblers, because of repeated offences, were reported to be housewives.
An analyst stated, 'Among the big gangs operating illegal gambling places, who have been prosecuted recently, we are finding housewives involved, more or less without exception. As far as we can determine, it has become a trend since the economic crisis in late 1997.'
'It is not difficult to see that habitual gambling among women leads to more divorces.', he said.
