Prosecutors Launch War Against Organized Crime

On April 12, prosecutors proclaimed that they will investigate the organized, and increasingly violent, criminal sector while regulating special laws against them.
The move is seen as a response to leaders of various groups who were arrested in 1990 but are now out of prison and the lifting of set closing times for bars and entertainment places.
The Supreme Public Prosecutor's Office decided to enact a special pact against violence on April 12 in a meeting held in the Seoul district office.
Defendants, instead of prosecutors, will have to prove how they earn their income whether it is clear or not; money laundering will also be punished to the full extent of the law.
Prosecutors are predicting that there are at least 404 factions with 11,539 members engaged in gang-related activity. Any strongmen who are protecting those criminal groups will also be targeted.
Furthermore, major bars, pubs and night clubs, totaling 408 places, will be closely observed for 24 hours everyday for any infractions, such as hiring underaged workers.
