People Commemorate Anniversary of 4.19 Revolution

Many visitors crowded into the national '4.19' cemetery located in Suyu District, in northern Seoul, on April 19 to commemorate the 39th anniversary of the 4.19 student revolution that led to the downfall of the Rhee Syng Man government.
A large number of citizens and university students visited the 4.19 revolution memorial monument and placed wreaths in front of it, paying tribute to the spirit of those who died during the revolution.
President Kim Dae Jung visited the cemetery early this morning and paid homage to the 4.19 monument while Prime Minister Kim Jong Pil and various government high officials held a commemorative ceremony.
Many civilian groups, including the Association for Bereaved Families of the Revolution, held their own ceremonies and deeply pondered the meaning of the revolution.
Two hundred and fifty students from Sungkyunkwan University held a 10km race that started at the university and finished at the national cemetary. In addition, many students from Myungji and Ewha Womans universities held a variety of events to mark this day.
