Prosecutors to Crackdown On Pirated Computer Software
Strict control over the copying of computer software will be exercised to avoid illegal copying by governmental agencies, public offices, and educational institutes beginning this May.The Supreme Prosecutor's Office (SPO) held a meeting on the protection of intellectual property for chief prosecutors from across the nation on April 26 and ordered them to take all necessary measures to crackdown on illegal computer software.
The SPO decided to extensively monitor government agencies, educational institutes, and research centers from May 1, because the Ministry of Justice's one-month suspension period expires at the end of this month. Last month the minister of justice ordered the SPO to halt the flow of pirated software.
The SPO plans to prosecute on criminal charges any public official or those who work in educational institutes, if they knowingly use illegally-copied computer software. It will also punish any personnel involved.
SPO will arrest and punish large computer-related manufacturers and distributors who supply illegal software.
