CIH Computer Virus Inflicts Heavy Damage

Serious damage has been done to computers throughout the nation by the 'CIH' computer virus.
CIH is hitting many computer systems of government agencies, private companies, public offices, and educational institutes across the country. Government organizations, including the Ministery of Information and Communication and the Ministry of Unification, as well as Samsung SDS, Korea Telecom, and other companies sustained severe damage from CIH.
Ahn Chulsoo's computer virus research institute, which has developed numerous vaccines for treating computer viruses, received 250 cases of CIH-inflicted damage; Hauri, another anti-virus company, reported more than 400 cases.
The CIH virus was programmed to attack unsuspecting computers only on April 26. Its assault is quick and can fatally destroy files stored on a computer's hard drive.
If a computer is infected with the virus, it basically becomes an empty shell, because the virus destroys the program that organizes all files stored on the hard disk.
People are advised to check their computers with a virus detector. The CIH virus is usually transmitted by downloading various programs from the Internet.
