Arirang Symbolizes Korea

'Arirang', which is a famous traditional Korean folk song, will become a symbol to preserve domestic dance, song and legends, the government announced on April 27.
Hong Soon Young, minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade with UNESCO recently agreed on conferring the 'Arirnag Prize' for masterpieces of Korean cultural remains, the ministry revealed.
Korea will be supporting 30,000 dollars biannually while UNESCO decides the winner in October.
A source from the ministry stated, 'Arirang is easy to pronounce for foreigners and it is a representative national song of Korea. The new prize will help publicize our traditions to the world.'
