President Likely to Reshuffle Cabinet
President Kim Dae Jung will make sweeping changes to his cabinet in early June. This reshuffle is aimed at correcting the apathetic attitude recently spreading in Korean society, including the slack discipline of public officials, which partly stems from the recovery of the Korean economy.
A high-ranking aide at Chong Wa Dae(Blue House) said that President Kim decided to move up the time of forming the new cabinet because he judged that a complete renewal of the social atmosphere is necessary.
The President originally planned to reshuffle in August, when the party convention of the National Congress of New Politics(NCNP) is supposed to be held.
He reportedly plans to select professionals with a reform attitude and special knowledge rather than politically-oriented men in the second cabinet.
