College Entrance Selection Varied

The college entrance selection process for the year 2000 will be changed as applicants will be chosen based on a variety of criteria, including principles' recommendations and special selections.
The Korea College Education Association on May 6 announced 186 national colleges and universities' entrance selection process for 2000.
According to the announcement, 150 colleges will execute early admission selections from November 22 to December 27 picking out about 124,000 students, 34 percent of total admittance.
Specially-admitted students will number 29,000 among 131 schools.
The portion of students recruited through regular admission will decrease from 66.6 percent to 62.6 percent in 2000.
Sixty-three schools in the first heat (a school's designated heat is completely arbitrary) such as Yonsei University have set an admission deadline from January 3 to 8th, 2000, while 73 second heat schools, including Seoul National University, will require applicants to apply between January 9 to 14th. Third and fouth heat schools set admittance periods between January 15-20 and 21-26, respectively.
Twenty-six universities including Seoul National and Yonsei will ask applicants to submit essays, as well.
