Ruling Party Considers Abolishing District Headquarters

The coalition ruling National Congress for New Politics(NCNP) and United Liberal Democrats(ULD)on May 8 decided to embark on new political reforms, including the abolishion of the current district headquarters and central party-oriented system.
It is part of the new political reform led by president Kim Dae Jung designed to alleviate 'high cost and low efficiency politics'.
Both ruling sides will announce detailed plans for political reform this week.
A source from the Blue House(Chong Wa Dae)said on May 8, 'Members of the National Assembly use the most expensive system of district headquarters management, but most nations do not have such a system. In most foreign countries, the central party, if any, has less than 200 personnel, Korea has far in excess of this amount leading to redundancy and consequent ineficientcy. Reform is being looked at again, as efficient government is still a long way off.
The Constituency system would comprise of both single and multiple constituency components, which is to be discussed with the opposition Grand National Party(GNP).
