Nationwide "No Smoking Campaign" Will Be Proclaimed

A nationwide 'No Smoking Campaign' will start in Korea soon.
During the May 11 meeting of government ministers, Health and Welfare Minister Kim Mo Im unveiled an elaborate plan to fight against the nation's deep-rooted smoking habit.
According to the plan, the government will proclaim 'Self-Regulated No Smoking Areas' in the nation on May 31.
The areas will include schools, government facilities, hospitals, and many corporate buildings.
Kim said 'As of the end of 1997, the rate of smokers among Korean males over 15 years in age is 68.2 percent, which is the highest in the world. But the government hopes to pull down the rate to 55 percent or so in 2003.'
