Professors Urge Government to Reconsider Massive Layoffs
More than 500 Korean professors on May 14 urged the government to stop its unilateral restructuring based on mass layoffs and to speed up reforms. The professors in a publicly-released statement claimed, 'The restructuring has resulted in consolidating only the previleged class, while laborers are suffering from restructuring's side effects.'
They added,'The government should maintain
a clear reform-oriented policy by discussing with workers on the country's future restructuring and by quickening chaebol reform.'
