Software Exports Expanding

The exporting of computer software is getting hotter and hotter this year.
According to the the Ministry of Information and Communications on May 14, domestic software producers have exported 26 million dollars worth of products during the first quarter of this year. This is about 75 percent more than that of the same period last year.
The ministry aims to export 285 million dollars worth of software, more than 2.5 times that of last year.
A source from the ministry said, 'Hyundai Electronics will receive a 13 million-dollar order for system software from Vietnam's Central Bank while the Pentagon wants 150 million dollars of software over three years from Handy Soft, so we are very optimistic in surpassing our goal.'
The success of software exports is partly due to the active organizing of branch offices in overseas markets, particularly the U.S. market where offices have been established in San Jose, New York, and other cities.
Moreover, the dreaded Y2K problem is creating more demand for system identification work. Especially in Europe, the newly-created 'Euro' currency has led to more integrated computer systems.
