Price of DRAM Plummets In International Market

The price of DRam(Direct Random Access Memory), Korea's largest export item, is rapidly plummeting in overseas markets this month, causing a certain amount of anxiety in the nation's export industry.
According to the Ministry of Commerce,Industy and Energy, 64 MDram, which had surged to almost 11 dollars per unit earlier this year before dropping back to 9.78 dollars in April, fell to 9.26 dollars on May 13, threatening the 9-dollar line.
The price of 64 Dram, which accounts for 60 percent of all Korean semiconductor exports, has not dropped below 10 dollars since June of last year.
The 128 MDram, which is expected to be the main export item for Korea's semiconductor industry in the future, also sharply fell to 33.94 dollars per unit on May 13 from 38.87 dollars recorded on April 20.
Semiconductor industry sources stated, 'When the price of 64 Dram falls 1 dollar per unit, the total exports of Korean semiconductors decline 750 million dollars annually.'
Sources added that the falling rate of semiconductor prices is faster than anticipated.
