U.S. Carmakers Investment in Korean Counterparts Expected

Major U.S. automakers are likely to invest in Hyundai Motor Company.
A source at Hyundai said on May 16, 'U.S. automobile companies seem to have chosen Korea as a bridgehead to China and Southeast Asia. The major firms such as Ford and Chrysler are actively negotiating a variety of arrangements with Hyundai including a strategic coalition.'
The source added that GM reportedly is negotiating with another, undisclosed Korean carmaker.
Hyundai Motor Co. is investigating the practicalities of issuing convertible bonds(CBs) on the international market to be bought by one or more of the interested U.S. carmakers, instead of directly selling shares.
Hyundai expects more interest from American automobile companies after it increases its capital by more than 2 trillion won.
