KAL Loses 50% of Seoul-Pohang Routes

The Ministry of Construction and Transportation on May 18 found the KAL pilot at fault for the March 15 airstrip accident. It therefore decided to penalize Korean Air by reducing by 50 percent the Seoul-Pohang route for 6 months.
In addition to that, KAL cannot have new domestic routes for a year. The restrictions come in to effect June 1. KAL is expected to lose at least 30 million dollars due to the route reductions and penalties.
The ministry will also raise the amount of fine up to 8 million dollars for plane accidents and will include the permanent loss of routes.
The ministry will also serve penalties on KAL for the Guam accident and the Shanghai incident.
KAL is also going to be receiving special safety checkup on flight, transportation and maintenance next month.
