Stomach Cancer Covered by Workers Compensation Plan

A worker who died of stomach cancer will be covered by the workers compensation plan.
The Seoul Administrative Court on May 20 ruled on behalf of the family members of a Mr.Kwon in their lawsuit against the Korea Labor Welfare Corporation.
The court stated in its judgement that Mr. Kwon's stomach cancer seemed to be caused or at least exacerbated by his chronic gastritis that was brought on by the overwork and irregular meals he received while employed at a Korean energy company.
So far, both liver cancer and lung cancer are potentially covered under the government-run compensation plan because their exact causes or related factors have not been fully illuminated yet.
The familiy members of Mr.Kwon filed a lawsuit because their application was rejected although they had applied for compensation as soon as he died in November 1996.
