Cabinet Reshuffling Will be Large Scale
The Kim Dae Jung administration, which bills itself as the 'People's Government', will execute a massive cabinet reshuffling on May 24, for the first time since last year's inauguration. This time it will be in line with the government's new focus of national management. The president has promised a smaller and more professional government, so the new cabinet and chief posts are presumed to exclude purely or solely politicians and include those deemed capable and efficient managers in a given field, quite the contrary to past cabinet postings as evinced by the ineptness of the former minister of maritime affairs and fisheries.
Park Ji Won, spokesperson to the Blue House(Chong Wa Dae), recently announced that the priciple structural change will be non-politician, professional, and intended for reform.
Unofficially, the selected ministry candidates will receive phone calls from the Blue House's secretary on May 23.
The opposition and other critics contend that President Kim's reshuffling is far from an effort to reform but rather a strategic move in preparation for the general election next year by way of returning politicial ministers to the ruling party, the National Congress for New Politics(NCNP). The president responded to the attack by stating the stability of the official community comes first.
Many feel that one winner in the new-look cabinet will be Prime Minister Kim Jong Pil who will have a much stronger role with the president in policies for the nation's management.
