Computer Hackers Causing a Lot of Trouble

Domestic companies, universities, and civilian groups have suffered repeated attacks by computer hackers, with some more serious than others.
A student from a univesity in Seoul was detected hacking satellite data stored on hard drives of the Korean Advanced Institute of Science and Technology(KAIST)'s computers.
A university in Taegu had trouble erasing illicit adult programs that a hacker installed after breaking into the university's main server.
In their PC game room lairs, hackers covertly install computer programs designed to break into computer systems of domestic companies and universities directly through modems or the Internet in order to either steal any data they find valuable or to just disrupt a system's operations.
Hacking cases reported to the Korea Information Security Agency (KISC) as of the end of last April amounted to 124. This figure is almost the equivalent of the total amount received by KISC in all of 1998.
As damage has been increasing from illegal hacking, many new information security businesses are springing up. S1 Co. recently launched an information security business with Hauri Co, a Korean anti-virus development company.
