Court Issues Warrant for Kim Yoon Hwan
Seoul District Court issued a warrant Thursday to bring to trial forcibly the assemblyman Kim Yoon Hwan, who left South Korea shortly after submitting a written application to the court asking for the postponement of his trial.Following the absence of Mr Kim in court on May 27, a warrant was issued for his detention in order to ensure he appears at his next trial, scheduled for June 25.
The opposition assemblyman was indicted but not held in custody on charges of accepting 3 billion won from the owner of Doowon Co. during the last election campaign for the National Assembly.
The court ruled that Mr.Kim violated conditions for those awaiting trial as his departure for Germany and England is not regarded as an official business trip, despite the fact that he was invited by both the German and British governments.
The court disregarded his scheduled visit to the two countries and ruled that a continuance was not warranted. The trial will resume on June 25.
