Seoul Declaration for Global Drugs Clean-up

The Supreme Prosecutor's Office on June 2 held the 10th Anti-Drug Liaison Officials' Meeting for International Cooperation (ADLOMICO) at the Sheraton Walkerhill Hotel with the participation of 122 delegates from 18 countries, including the U.K., the U.S., China and Japan, and the United Nations International Drug Control Programme(UNDCP).
The prosecution declared the 'National Drug Control Strategy', a pan-governmental masterplan to realize a 'drug-free society' by the year 2008.
The participants agreed on the early establishment of a drug elimination strategy by nations through the 'Seoul Declaration' formally adopted at this conference.
The prosecutor-general, Park Soon Yong, stated in the opening address, that 'building the global mutual assistance investigation system is vital as international society has a collective responsibility for the drug problem. The Korean government will take part positively in international cooperative activities, making use of their experience of fighting drugs.'
The 'National Drug Control Strategy', an integration of strategies made by 10 governmental administrations including the judicial system, the police and the Ministry of Health and Welfare, consists of 4 parts : the interception of the drugs supply, reduction of demand, alerting citizens' attention to the problem and the international exchange of information.
