Kim Young Sam Harshly Attacks "Sunshine Policy"

Former President Kim Young Sam, now visiting Japan, harshly censured the 'Sunshine Policy', or the policy of engagement towards North Korea endorsed by the current Korean government.
The ex-president asserted on June 5 in an interview at the Kitakushu Hotel with the Yomiuri paper, one of the leading Japanese papers, that 'For peace in the Korean Peninsula, the cooperation of Korea, the U.S. and Japan on major issues is essential. The 'Sunshine Policy', however, is regarded as an obstacle to such a cooperation.'
Regarding the missile launch by NK last August, Kim said, 'It is really strange that Seoul has never made any significant comments on the threatening action by the North, although the missile had in its range U.S. territory as well as that of Japan.'
He also said that 'As far as I know, NK still dispatches spies to the South. But the current Korean government asserts it has captured not a single spy since the beginning of the Kim Dae Jung administration in February 1998.'
Asked about the current government in NK, Kim said the Kim Jong Il regime will not last long without giving any ground.
