Re-examination of Agricultural Co-Op"s Slush Fund

Won Chul Hee regularly offered 100 to 150 political and bureaucratic strongmen money in exchange for their support when in his former role as Chairman of the National Agricultural Co-operative Federation (NACF), the prosecution claimed Friday as it commenced with a thorough re-examination of the case.
The Central Investigation Department of the Supreme Public Prosecutor's Office announced that it has decided to recall Won from prison to assist with their inquiry into the cash offerings.
According to the prosecution, Won took half a million dollars in public funds and used it as a secret slush fund to distribute to dignitaries in various sectors for the purpose of lobbying.
Among those who received money from Won are a former minister and a current member of the National Assembly.
A source from the prosecution said, 'When we were investigating the corruption in the NACF in April 1998, Won did not state detailed items in the accounts, so the political examination could not keep going.'
