Daewoo to Construct Automobile Assembly Line in Myanmar
According to the Ministry of Commerce, Industry, and Energy and Daewoo Group on June 13, Daewoo Motors, which has been seeking to establish a joint company to build an automobile assembly line with a state-run company in Myanmar, is about to get final approval from the Myanmar government. The factory will not be a full-scale assembly line, but rather pre-made and assembled parts will be shipped to Myanmar and then put together as cars, so Daewoo's investment in the joint company will be lower than if it was going to start up complete car manufacturing.
Daewoo will set up the joint venture at a ratio of 6 to 4 in capital investment with the Myanmar company in August once it procures final approval. The assembly line will start operating in January 2000.
Daewoo plans to assemble 800 automobiles in the first year and expand the number to 4,000 four years later.
