More Semiconductors Produced Abroad

As both Samsung and Hyundai Electronics have started full-scale production in their U.S. factories, the turnout of semiconductors in the U.S. has now surpassed the quantity produced in Korea.
Beginning earlier this year, Samsung has gradually cranked up the Austin factory in Texas to 100 percent capacity, issuing 8 million units of 64-mega DRAM per month.
This amount almost equals what its main factory in Kihung, Kyonggi Province ships to the States, and, as a result, half of Samsung's semiconductor exports for the U.S. market are produced in the U.S.
Hyundai, in the meantime, took over a factory in Eugene, Texas last year and commenced producing 30,000 8-inch wafers per month, covering 70 percent of its total 64-mega DRAM sales. Out of 80 million DRAM semiconductors sold in the U.S. each year, 54 million will be produced in the U.S., Hyundai explained.
Market experts expect that any serious anti-dumping lawsuits by the U.S. government will be averted if the U.S. factories operate at full strength.
